Ex-WhatsApp employees launch new social networking app, to compete with Facebook

The former employees of WhatsApp have come up with a new social media platform that will directly compete with the world's largest social media website Facebook. Called 'Hallo', the app has been launched by Neeraj Arora and Michael Donohue, who are ex-employees of Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp. The duo claims that the app has everything but it will be completely different from Facebook.

The makers have claimed that this is the first real relationship network.

Arora tweeted that there will be no ads, bots, followers, likes, etc. He also informed that the app will not keep an eye on the activities of the users, unlike other apps, nor will there be things that spoil the environment.

The HalloApp consists of four main tabs—a home feed of posts from your friends, group chats, individual chats, and settings. The app's overall aesthetic is very minimal and there are no algorithms sorting posts or group chats.

You can install this app on your phone through the Play Store. For registration, all you need to do is enter your phone number. On this app, you can send requests to the people in your contact list. As soon as they install, they will also join you in the Hallo app. The developers have claimed that they will not store personal details. They will not have information about what you are doing on the app.

"Unlike legacy social networks, we believe privacy is a fundamental human right. HalloApp uses your phone address book to connect you with the real relationships in your life, and that’s it. Beyond that, we never collect, store, or use any personal information (we have no idea where you live, what you do for work, or how likely you are to consume a certain type of content). More importantly, we will never show you ads. Ever. Instead, we plan to eventually offer additional features at a small cost," the company said in a blog post.
