Our initial impressions (with pictures) of Xiaomi's Snapdragon 650 powered Redmi Note 3 smartphone going on sale March 9th exclusively on Amazon.
Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 3 with a full-metal body that packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor with Adreno 510 GPU. The smartphone has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a Full HD resolution of 1080x1920 pixels (translating to a 403ppi pixel density.)
The smartphone has a 16MP rear camera with dual LED flash and a 5MP front facing camera. Running on MIUI 7 operating system based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and powered by a Non-removable 4,050mAh battery. The device is equipped with a fingerprint scanner supports dual SIM (Micro-SIM/Nano-SIM) and is available in three colours: Silver, Gray and Gold.
The Redmi Note 3 is available in two variants: 2GB of RAM (with 16GB of inbuilt storage) and 3GB of RAM (with 32GB of internal storage). Both variants are expandable upto 128GB via a microSD (uses SIM 2 slot).
The devices are available for registration exclusively on Amazon India now and will go on sale on 9 March at 2pm. The Redmi Note 3 is priced at Rs 9,999 for the 2GB of RAM variant (with 16GB of inbuilt storage) and Rs 11,999 for the 3GB of RAM variant (with 32GB of internal storage).
The phone feels tangibly light in the hands, despite the metal body and its 4,050mAH battery. The 5.5-inch full HD display is sharp, and the colors are thankfully not too saturated. It sports a smooth finish all over with rounded edges, making it comfortable to grip. But it also means the phone is a prime candidate for slipping through sweaty hands.
The MIUI 7 running on the Redmi Note 3 has this feature called the Wallpaper Carousel that is accessed by tapping the clover shaped icon at the top right of the lock screen. This feature downloads (over WiFi only) up to five hi-res wallpapers for the lock screen from online photo sources like 500px and Flickr. Neat, if you like seeing random new photos each time you unlock your phone.
The phone's profile is surprisingly slim, despite that high capacity battery. This is apparently due to the battery having the highest density being used in the market currently.
Out back, there's a clean and balanced alignment among the primary camera, the dual flash element, and the round capacitive fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor can be used in any orientation, and can also be used to trigger the camera shutter release. Interestingly, immediately beneath the speaker grille near the bottom is a tiny ridge. This raises the phone ever so slightly when placed on its back, enabling the speaker to sound that much louder.
Up top, and the device has the usual 3.5mm headphone jack. There's also an IR blaster that, when used in conjunction with the bundled app, is able to control appliances like air conditioners, televisions, even DSLR cameras that have and IR trigger feature. When set up, these IR settings can be shared with other people with similar phones.
