'Ramayan' actor Chandrashekhar Vaidya passes away at the age of 98

Veteran actor Chandrashekhar Vaidya passes away at the age of 98 due to old age ailments. He was famous for his role as Arya Sumant in 'Ramayan'.

Bollywood's yesteryear actor, Chandrashekhar Vaidya passed away on June 16 early morning at 7am. Chandrashekhar was admitted to the hospital on Thursday, last week and reportedly passed away due to age-related ailments at the age of 98. 

According to an ETimes report, Chandrashekhar's son confirmed the unfortunate news and revealed that the veteran actor was feeling fine last night (June 15). He said, "Daddy passed away in sleep. He had no issues with his health. He was in the hospital for a day, last Thursday. We brought him back home and had kept all facilities including oxygen at our disposal if the need would arise. He was okay last night. The end was peaceful." 

Chandrashekhar debuted in 'V Shantaram's 'Aurat Teri Yehi Kahani' in 1954 and had done over 112 films since then. He also introduced the 'Cha Cha Cha' dance to Indian cinema with a film of the same name in 1964.

He was famous for his role as Arya Sumant in Ramanand Sagar's epic TV series 'Ramayan'. He had also done movies like 'The Burning Train', 'Maan Gaye Ustaad', 'Disco Dancer', 'Namak Halaal', 'Hum Tum Aur Woh' amongst others.

He retired from the film industry in 2000 and his last film was Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala starrer 'Khauff'. Apart from being integral to the industry through his films, Chandrashekhar also served as President of the Cine Artistes Association (CINTAA) from 1985 to 1996. 
 
Chandrashekhar's son, professor Ashok Chandra Shekhar, informed that his last rites will take place at 3pm at Vile Parle Crematorium in Mumbai.
