Viral video: Assam forest officials rescue elephant calf from flooded river, earn praise online

A recent viral video from Assam has captured the heartwarming rescue of an elephant calf from a flooded river, gaining widespread admiration online.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the video on X, showing the calf struggling against the river's strong current, keeping its trunk above water as it approached the bank. As the elephant neared the shore, an observant official decided to help. He tied a rope around the calf, and with the help of other forest officials, successfully pulled it out of the water.

“Recently, our forest officials rescued a baby elephant who lost her way along the Aie River in Chirang. She is currently being treated at Manas National Park as we try to establish contact with her mother,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote in his post.

The video received a flood of positive responses, with people applauding the forest officials' efforts. “Very good work,” one user commented, while another noted it was a “Good effort.” Many expressed hopes for the calf's reunion with its mother, with one user saying, “I pray to God to find the mother of the elephant, sir.”
