During the Hindu festival, Navratri, devotees fast for nine days to worship various forms of goddess Durga.
Most of us do it out of religious beliefs and traditions.
But did you know that keeping a fast during Navratri can be very healthy?
Here are five health benefits of fasting during Navratri.
Helps to detox: We consume a lot of toxins every day through consuming a lot of unhygienic food. Fasting helps our body to get rid of those toxins and boosts immunity during Navratri.
Eases the digestive system: Our digestive system is constantly working to break down food and further digestion. Keeping a fast gives rest to the digestive system.
Lowers stress: A study conducted in 2003 revealed that keeping fast helps to reduce stress and improves our cognitive health.
Reduces blood sugar level: During fast, the insulin resistance in the body reduces and makes it less sensitive to hormones and promotes better transfer of glucose from blood cells.
Improves metabolism: Fasting increases the production of HGH hormones that are behind muscle growth, metabolism, increase in height and weight loss.
