Choose a mature, dry gourd with a thick, tough skin suitable for loofah making.
Merge the gourd in water for several hours or overnight to soften its outer skin.
Once softened, peel off the outer skin using a vegetable peeler or knife.
Cut open the gourd and scoop out the seeds and any remaining pulp using a spoonÂ
Rinse the gourd thoroughly under running water to remove any remaining pulp or seeds. Allow it to air dry completely.
Cut the gourd into sections of desired length, typically around 4-6 inches long.
Use a long-handled spoon or other scraping tool to hollow out the center of each section, removing any remaining seeds and pulp to create a hollow tube.
Smooth the outer surface of each section using sandpaper to remove any rough edges and shape the loofah to your liking.
