India, a land steeped in history, also holds remnants of its past in the form of abandoned towns. These ghost towns, once bustling with life, now stand silent, each with its own haunting story. Here are 7 such forgotten places:

Kuldhara, Rajasthan:  This deserted village near Jaisalmer is shrouded in mystery. Legend says its inhabitants vanished overnight to escape the tyranny of a ruthless ruler.

Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu:  Situated on the Pamban Island, Dhanushkodi was once a thriving town. However, a devastating cyclone in 1964 nearly wiped it off the map.

Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan:  This 17th century fort is notorious for being haunted.  Legends speak of a curse placed upon it by a scorned princess, leading to its abandonment.

Shettihalli, Karnataka:  This town, once known for its beautiful coffee estates, now lies abandoned.

Lakhpat, Gujarat:  This port city on the Kutch peninsula thrived for centuries.  However, the gradual shifting of the coastline rendered it inaccessible, leading to its decline.

Ross Island, Andaman and Nicobar Islands:  This island served as a British Penal Colony in the 19th century.  After a devastating earthquake in 1941, the island was abandoned.

These ghost towns offer a glimpse into India's rich history and a reminder of the impermanence of human settlements.
