US President Donald Trump slams Lincoln Project Republicans for COVID-19 ad, calls them 'losers'

United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump group of Republicans, calling them 'losers' after the organisation released an ad called "Mourning in America in which it accused trump of mishandling the COVID-19 pandemic.

“George Conway, take a look at him, just take a look at that guy, the man’s a stone-cold loser,” Trump said. “It’s a group of major losers. They’re Republican losers.” he told the press.

The ad run in limited buys on American news channel Fox News which claimed that the country is "weaker and sicker and poorer" under Donald Trump's leadership. 

It is to be noted that George Conway is Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway's husband, and also a part of Lincoln Project. The Lincoln project consists of Republican or ex-Republican political professionals whose current goal is to make Trump lose the reelection.

The members of the Lincoln project were also involved in the "NeverTrump" movement in the 2016 election in which it openly criticized Trump and the Republic party for nominating him for the President's job. The noted members of the group are--Steve Schmidt, John Weaver and Reed Galen.

The Lincoln Project was created in 2019, managing to raise as much as $2.5 million through the end of March 2020, spending about $1.2 million of that through the same period. The majority of the fund has gone to a media-consulting company owned by Galen called Summit Strategic Communications, which is ENtrusted with the responsibility of producing the ads of Lincoln Project. 

Trump had told the media that the country has already 'flattened the curve', and it is ready for a 'phased and gradual reopening' even though coronavirus cases and deaths shows no sign of stopping.

"Thanks to the profound commitment of our citizens, we have flattened the curve and countless American lives have been saved. Our country is now in the next stage of the battle - a very safe phased and gradual reopening, reopening our country," Trump said.

Trump also said that the country is making 'tremendous progress', highlighting that it has 'accelerated the development of new therapies and vaccines'.

"Something is going to happen. Tremendous progress being made. Don't want to talk about it until it's there. But I'll say they really are making progress. Johnson & Johnson folks have been really fantastic. They want to get to it fast. We'll all know very soon," Trump said.

"We're doing something very dramatic & there hasn't been anything like what we have done since the mobilisation since World War II. We've dramatically accelerated development of new therapies & potential vaccines. We have 90 clinical trials underway & hundreds more on way," he added.

He also expressed confidence that the vaccine for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine will become available by the end of 2020.
