Incessant rain continued in several parts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat on Tuesday, even as rain continued to elude Ahmedabad. Officials said that one person died in a rain-related incident, while 3,500 people in affected areas were shifted to safer places. The weather department has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rains at many places across the state over the next five days.

The State Emergency Operation Centre said that Khambhalia taluka of Devbhumi Dwarka district received 12.5 inch rainfall between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm today, while Manavadar in Junagadh received 11 inch

Gir Somnath district, which was battered by rains yesterday, saw some let-up in rain, but many areas remained flooded. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani undertook an aerial survey of the district.

Officials said that death toll in rain related incidents rose to 30 as 7-yr-old Sandeep Rathod of Vadodara was swept away by river waters while trying to cross it today.

"Eleven people have died due to lightning, 11 by drowning, and nine others by other causes. The number of animal deaths so far is 125," said a state government official.
