Taking serious note of complaints that 15 of its affiliate colleges were declining to admit students to post-graduation courses under the university quota and charging excess fee, Bangalore University has decided to levy a penal fee of Rs50,000 on respective institutions for every student refused admission.

A decision to this effect was taken at a recent meeting of the Bangalore University syndicate.

The penal fee will be for relocating the students concerned in other institutions and creating additional infrastructure in the respective institution to accommodate them.

The university has received several complaints from students that the colleges for which they had been chosen in the post-graduate counseling conducted by the university have declined to admit them.

“The syndicate also resolved to blacklist the colleges which decline to admit the students. Applications from such colleges for affiliation/re-affiliation of post-graduate courses will not be entertained during the academic year 2011-12,” said an official from the university.

The syndicate decision will be forwarded to the colleges and they would be given seven days time to comply with the university’s directives and admit the students. If the colleges failed to fall in line, the punitive steps would be initiated, the official said.

“Classes for first semester of the PG courses have already started. We have decided to write to the colleges concerned and then initiate action if they continue to remain adamant,” the official added. Bangalore University had recently concluded centralised counselling for post-graduate admissions.
