The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) is likely to issue the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2010 brochures without the details of private medical colleges, due to the absence of talks between private medical college managements and the department of medical education on seat sharing and fee structure.

The KEA published a notification regarding the CET 2010 mentioning the relevant dates on Tuesday.  According to officials, this is for the first time that the KEA is issuing the notification before finalising the seat sharing and fee structure.

“We will wait for a week. If the issue regarding the medical seat sharing and fee structure is not finalised by then, we will go ahead with the plan and will print the application forms without the details of private medical colleges,” an official in the higher education department, who did not want to be named, said.

The officials in the medical education department told DNA that they were uncertain when the issue would be resolved. “ We  hope to  get a clear picture by the end of this week,” said an official.

Though the medical education minister Ramachandra Gowda had called at least four meetings in the past two months to discuss the issue, no one representing the private medical college managements attend them.

“We are trying to finish the discussions by this weekend. They have agreed to continue with the previous year’s seat matrix. But there are some technical problems that need to be solved.”

“Everything is being finalised and last year’s seat matrix and fee structure will only hold good,” said Anis Raj, additional secretary.

However, the private managements said that they had no clue about it. “The state government is making unilateral statements about the CET. According to my knowledge nothing has been decided yet and we have not been invited for any talks,” said Dr S Kumar, executive secretary, Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K).
