The state cabinet on Thursday cleared proposals for three private universities around Bangalore, including a health university.
Announcing this, law and parliamentary affairs Suresh Kumar said these include Sam Pitroda’s Foundation for Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions which wants to set up a health university - The Institute for Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology. This would be a research-based university. “The institute has 50 acres of land and does not need grants from the state government,” he added.
The cabinet also approved in principle the proposal of CMR Jnanadhara Trust of Jalahalli to establish a private university. It also approved the proposal of AH Memorial Trust, which owns 52 acres of land near Hesaraghatta, to launch a private university.
The cabinet also gave its nod to Agastya Foundation Institute for establishing four training centres in Shimoga, Bidar, Bijapur and Bagalkot. The institute will help students focus on core science subjects. The project will be launched at a cost of Rs14 crore under the Sarvashikha
Abhiyan scheme.
The cabinet also agreed to release its share of 25% of the funds for the development of Bangalore Medical College (BMC). The total amount needed for the upgradation is `9 crore, and the work will be completed in three years, Suresh Kumar said.
Besides, the state government will release Rs22 crore for the construction work of the International Conference Hall in Bangalore Agriculture University. A government polytechnic college will also be started at Aladur in Chikmagalur district. In addition, the government decided to establish a Morarji Desai Residential Schools in Hukkeri taluq and Nidusigi village of Belgaum district. A pre-university residential college will be opened in Kalli village of Uttara Kannada district.
Next, 110 acres of alternative land will be provided to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Anekal, as the land allotted earlier comprised stone quarries.The land adjacent to the allotted plot will be given to them now, Kumar said.
The government also decided to fix the new lease price for the 140 acres of land given to the Mysore Race Course. The government used to get Rs2 lakh per year; now it will take two per cent of the annual revenue of the race course. “It would come to Rs30-35 lakh per year,” he said. The parade ground of Mysore, used on the occasion of Dussehra festival, will be given a facelift. “The seating capacity, which is 22,000 now, will be increased to 32,000 at a cost of Rs6.55 crore,” he said.
The cabinet also decided to announce Rs250 support price for paddy and Rs650 for dal.
A solar park will be established near Nayakanahatti village in Challakere of Chitradurga district.
