At SMS, wards in which patients with limb-related diseases are admitted don't have windowpanes.
The patients admitted in the building of Shri Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, situated on SMS Hospital premises, have got no cover against icy winds other than quilts.
The wards in which patients are admitted have no windowpanes. There are a number of differently abled patients who are residing here for treatment.
When this correspondent tried to speak to an official (later on identified as Rajkumar) present at the centre, he misbehaved stating that the building has been standing since 1975 and that people have never complained about anything.
When dna correspondent spoke to the patients and their relatives, they said they suffer a lot during nights as icy winds penetrate through the grills of steel windows.
A patient’s relative said, “We face a lot of inconvenience due to cold but we are helplessness. We are here for treatment.” He added, “The windows should have glass panes.”
Needless to say that the freezing weather troubles even those who remain in cosiest of rooms, so what would these people be going through is quite understandable.
DR Mehta, founder and chief patron of Shri Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, said, “I understand that people are facing problems due to biting cold. We are getting the repair works done.”
However, when asked as when the work of fitting glasses in the windows would be completed, Mehta said he could not specify the time.
“I’m not too sure as when the work is going to be completed. We would try and do it soon,” he said.
It should be known that a large number of poor patients come every week from far and wide for treatment of limb-related diseases and deformities. They are admitted at this centre on the hospital premises.
