The high-pitch drama ended after BS Yeddyurappa announced his resignation in the state assembly as the Karnataka Chief Minister and proceeded to submit it to the Raj Bhavan. It was a Vajpayee moment wherein Yeddyurappa made an emotional speech and realising that he lacks numbers preferred not to face trust vote instead step down. Pro-tem speaker KG Bopaiah subsequently adjourned the house sine die.

Congress and Janaga Dal (S) members in the assembly gathered together and greeted each other. Congress succeeded in bringing back their two missing legislators BS Anand Singh and Pratap Gowda Patil to vote for the party.

Earlier, in his over 25-minute speech, Yeddyurappa attacked JD(S)-Congress combine calling it ''unholy and unscrupulous,'' against the poll mandate. He said that the people of Karnataka will now be "ruled by an unholy alliance".

"I've been given a mandate of 104 seats, people have given their blessings. we were only 40 in outgoing assembly. But people of State have rejected Congress and their numbers have been reduced. Everybody in the state knows this," Yeddyurappa said. He noted that even though BJP got the people's mandate, but the party did not get it in full. Congress did not get it, JD(S) did not get it.

"They have made an unscrupulous post-poll alliance. The single largest party is the BJP. Always the invitation is given to the single largest party and the Governor invited us as per procedure,'' he viewed.

He largely devoted major part of speech explaining the house that he will the last minute of his life will work for the betterment of farmers and downtrodden of the Karnataka.

"It is sad, farmers, agriculture workers are in bad state. Farmers not getting scientific price for his products. 3,500 farmers have committed suicide. Even after so many years of independence, we have not been able to complete irrigation projects or provide clean drinking water. People were angry with the system that brought about this situation," he said. He added that he is the champion of farmers and has always been.

"I had planned waiver of loans up to 1 lakh in nationalised banks, coop banks, weavers’ loans, irrigation projects should get priority. At least 50,000 crore fund, for scientific price for crops. To serve the people, farmer – is my only ambition. I dedicate my life for farmers. I fight for them till my last breath," he says.

''It is painful to see poverty, those who do not have enough. Modi also has said there should be developed in the state. Even when Cong rules this state, Modi spoke about development. He gave more to this state compared to others. He had said even if it's a Cong government, development is the focus,'' Yeddyurappa said and added that BJP wanted to make Karnataka a model state.

Yeddyurdappa said this was like an Agni Paiksha but his life itself had been like that. “I have always to strive to serve this state. If there was a clear mandate, we would have done a lot. Maybe, it's fate,'' he opined.

While concluding his speech he said he had hoped that legislators sitting on the other side would realise the kind of development that would be possible under Modi. ''I had hoped that legislators sitting on the other side would realise the kind of development that would be possible under Modi. They agreed, but in politics it is different. We will win all 28 constituencies in 2019,'' he noted.
