Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah will be visiting New Delhi tomorrow amid mounting pressure on the Congress to resolve the Telangana issue. Though for the record, the chief minister said his visit to Delhi was primarily to greet AICC chief Sonia Gandhi on her birthday, party sources have said Rosaiah would discuss the Telangana issue with her.

With Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao continuing his fast-unto-death for the past ten days and his condition deteriorating day-by-day, pressure is mounting on the Congress to resolve the issue immediately.

Congress is facing criticism that it has so far not spelt out its stand on the statehood demand despite all other parties in the state making their position clear on the contentious issue.

Even the all-party meeting called by the chief minister yesterday, at the behest of the party high command, ended inconclusively with the Congress, as usual, maintaining that any decision on the issue was left to the high command.

The chief minister, when questioned about the likelihood of moving a resolution in the state Legislature seeking creation of Telangana state, reiterated that they would act only on the instructions on the party high command.

Rosaiah would apprise Sonia Gandhi on the prevailing situation in Telangana region following Rao's fast and the violent course the agitation by students was taking, the party sources said.
