Country has lost a popular leader of the masses: Advani

Condoling the death of Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha LK Advani today described him as a popular leader of the masses who had a special concern for the welfare of the poor.

"In his death, the people of Andhra Pradesh and the country at large lost a very able and popular leader of the masses. His contribution to the development of Andhra Pradesh and particularly the deprived classes of the society is praiseworthy," Advani said in his condolence message.

He praised Reddy for initiating many welfare schemes for the public in the last six years as chief minister and lauded his contribution of more than 25 years to public life while in opposition.

"To reach out to the masses, he has undertaken many programmes, notable of which is his 1400-km long padyatra in the year 2003," Advani said.

As a mark of respect to the late leader, the BJP has said its flag would fly at half mast at their party headquarters.
