Myanmarese and Thai poachers held in Andamans

Eleven Myanmarese and three Thai nationals suspected to have been poaching sea cucumber, coral and other ornamental fish were held near Bompaka in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Eleven Myanmarese and three Thai nationals suspected to have been poaching sea cucumber, coral and other ornamental fish were held today near Bompaka in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Coast guard personnel apprehended them along with their boat and seized 700 kg ornamental fish from them, CG officials said.

They were seen moving suspiciously by personnel of the newly-commissioned Coast Guard station Hutbay near Bompaka
between Chowra and Tillangchong, officials said.

Equipment like a VHF set for communication, diving gear like compressor and other equipment were seized from the poachers.

They were being carried by a Coast Guard ship 'Kanaklata Barua' to Hutbay harbour and would be handed over to the police.
