No intention to pull down UPA govt: BJP

BJP, which has sought to corner the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre on the price-rise issue by announcing that it would move cut motions on the budget in Parliament, today said it had no intention to pull it down.

"We do not want this government, which is a few months old, to fall; that is not our intention. We want to make Congress realise the sufferings of poor people on the price rise issue and the fuel price hike which could further spur prices of essential commodities," party's senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.

Naidu denied "suggesting" to the DMK and Trinamool Congress, which have been pressing for rollback of fuel price hike, to vote against the government when the budget comes up for passing before Parliament. The "learned leaders" of these two parties knew "what to do and when to do," he said. 

Alleging "massive corruption" in foodgrains' export and import, he sought a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into it. As part of its campaign against price-rise, BJP would launch a signature campaign tomorrow and "Chalo Parliament" on April 21, he said.

Senior BJP leader and former finance minister Yashwant Sinha has announced its members would oppose the "inflationary
budget" when it is put to vote and would move cut motions.

On the Telangana issue, Naidu said the appointment of the Justice Sri Krishna Commission "will serve no purpose", saying
the Centre has to decide on the issue.

He termed as "futile exercise" the just concluded foreign-secretary level talks between India and Pakistan, saying the latter was not serious about it.
