Two months after his arrest on the charge of raping his domestic help, Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja today appealed for bail in a sessions court on the ground that investigations had concluded and chargesheet had been filed in the case.

The court deferred the matter to August 25 as public prosecutor RV Kini sought time to advance arguments while Shiney's lawyer Srikant Shivade sought certain documents which are not included in the chargesheet.

This is the second time that Shiney has appealed for bail. His first plea was rejected on July 8 by sessions court which had observed that prima facie the case had been made out against the actor.

Shiney has now sought bail on the grounds that his custody was not required by police at this stage as investigations were over and the chargesheet had been filed.

His lawyer has sought statement of the victim recorded by a magistrate and also correspondence between policemen and laboratory where forensic tests had been conducted.

The 36-year-old actor, currently lodged at Arthur Road jail, was arrested on June 15 for allegedly raping his maid servant at his residence in suburban Oshiwara.

Shiney's lawyer Srikant Shivade had earlier claimed that the entire case against the actor had been "concocted" and alleged that a conspiracy had been hatched to wrongly implicate him in the crime.
