The city is facing one of its worst water crises and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is making all possible efforts to save the taps from running dry. The civic body, which has launched the ‘Save Water’ campaign, plans to rope in master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and other celebrities to promote the campaign.

The BMC’s campaign is aimed at making Mumbaikars realise the importance of saving water and letting them know the graveness of the crisis. The corporation wants the campaign to appeal to all the citizens and so the plans to rope in known faces, who people will look up to.

Tendulkar is almost certain to be the face of the campaign as he would feature in the advertisements, which are to be released soon, asking people to conserve water. The civic body plans to air the advertisements in theatres and on television channels.

The BMC is also looking at involving corporates in the campaign and has already sent feelers to the Indian Merchants Chamber (IMC) and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). According to sources, municipal commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya is keen on having the corporates in the campaign.

The BMC is also hoping to learn new water conservation methods from the business houses. They also plans to involve non-government organisations (NGOs) and advanced locality managements (ALMs) in the drive.

The civic body also wants citizens to adopt simple water conservation steps to solve the water woes. People need to stop using fresh water for watering lawns, leaking taps must be repaired, among others, are a few tips that the BMC’s hydraulic department has given.
