The Maharashtra government seems to have learnt a lesson after Nano shifted lock, stock and barrel out of an indecisive West Bengal to a willing Gujarat.

The state has now decided to create a land bank to make the required land available to industries on an urgent basis.

Following the advice given by noted industrialist Ratan Tata, the industries department of the state government has now decided to create a land bank of 5,000 acres in each region.

There are six revenue regions in the state. This would help the department fulfil the urgent need of industrialists in order to stop projects from slipping out of the state’s fingers.

Industries minister Rajendra Darda said in the state assembly, in his reply to the debate on budgetary demand of his department, that the bank would be created in all six revenue regions.

“During our meet after I took charge of the industries department, Tata suggested the idea of a land bank. He told me that he needed the land in three days at that time and was forced to shift his project to Gujarat,” Darda said.

“The land bank idea has been approved by the Centre and the idea will be implemented across the country,” he added.
