First, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar came on to bat for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s save water campaign. Now, Bollywood has decided to follow in the master blaster’s footsteps.

Call it a creative way to promote a film. The cast and the crew of horror flick Rokkk, which will release on March 5, have tied up with an NGO, Vision Foundation, run by Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh, to spread the watch words for the city — save water.

The star cast comprising Udita Goswami, Shaad Randhawa, Ashvini Kalsekar, Sachin Khedekar and Tanushree Datta will turn up at an event in Malvani, Malad, on Monday evening. Shaikh said that over a 1,000 people, including school students, were expected to attend it.

Director Rajesh Ransinghe said that the film’s promos, stickers and advertisements would stress the need of saving water. “Advertisements will be put up outside buildings, on taxis and auto rickshaws,” Ransinghe said. “School students too will be roped in to spread the social message.”

On tying up with film stars for the water campaign, Shaikh said that Bollywood stars were crowd-pullers. They spreading the message would mean a lot more to the people.

Ransinghe  drew parallels with his film and the water crisis in the city. “My film is based on preventing horrors of life. Water crisis is a real horror at this hour,” he said.

The director is hoping that his film would gain goodwill among the people by taking up the social cause. “Water is an issue which affects us all,” he said. Avoiding misuse of water during Holi is one message which the stars are expected to spread at Monday’s event.
