It was a shivery Monday morning form Punekars with the city recording 7.9 degrees Celsius, its lowest temperature so far this winter. Monday morning’s recorded temperature is 6.5 degrees below normal for this time of the year.

Pune’s temperature has been fluctuating and deviating from the normal over the last 24 hours. But while the maximum temperature has deviated from the normal by only 0.5 degrees Celsius, the deviation in the minimum temperature was quite a cold surprise for the citizens.

The forecast states that the minimum temperatures over the next two days is likely to be 8-9 degrees Celsius, mainly dry with clear skies.

The normal temperatures in the month of November in Pune range between a maximum of 30.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 15.8 degree Celsius.
Medha Khole, chief of the India Meteorological Department, said, “The low temperatures are expected to continue for at least two more days. This 6.5 degree-drop below normal is quite sudden. Just last week the temperatures were near normal and the weather was pleasant.”

Meanwhile, in the rest of the state, severe cold wave-like conditions prevailed in some parts of central Maharashtra. In Marathwada and Vidarbha, the night temperatures were significantly below normal. The temperatures recorded in the rest of central Maharashtra as well as in interior Karnataka were below normal as well.

According to the forecast by the India Meteorological Department, mainly dry weather is likely to prevail in Konkan and Goa, central Maharashtra and Marathwada.
In the month of October, both maximum and minimum temperatures were near normal and within +/- 1 degree Celsius range in most parts of the country.
