The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will for the first time hold a two-day work culture workshop for its class IV staff on Friday.

The event is organised by the PCMC and the regional centre for urban and environmental studies of the All-India Institute of Local Self-Government, Mumbai.

The assistant commissioner, Dilip Gavde, said usually all types of workshops and training programmes are held for senior-level officers. “This time we want to impart training to class IV employees, who actually perform their duties at the grass-roots level, and are usually left out of such training programmes,” he said.

Supervisors, health assistants, gutter coolies, drivers, conservancy workers and helpers will take part in the workshop. The issues on health, vulnerability, addiction and human relations would be discussed in the meet.

Under the health section, details like concept of health, healthy habits, illness and treatment, superstitions and traditional practices, local environment, dietary practices, living conditions, major diseases, hygienic practices and personal hygiene would be discussed.

Information on chances of infection, spread of diseases, pollution and health, allergy, preventive measures, the importance of handkerchiefs, masks, hand gloves, uniforms and shoes will also be given in the training programme.

The participants would also be made aware about addiction to tobacco and liquor, and their effects on health, social status, family and financial status.

They would also get a feedback and sharing opportunity where their questions would be answered by experts.
