Two students drown

An outing turned out be tragedy with two school students drowning in a river in Boisar in neighbouring Thane district today, police said.

The deceased identified as Javed Shaikh and Sunil Yadav, accompanied by their three friends bunked school and went for an outing, police said adding they went to a picnic spot near Surya river in Makadchole village.

Though Shaikh and Yadav did not know swimming, they too along with other three ventured into the river.

"As they went deep into the river, they drowned. Their friends could not rescue them," police said.

Fire brigade officials rushed to spot and searched the bodies, which were later taken to a general hospital for post mortem.
