PATNA: The entertainment sector in Bihar seems to be in for a change. After announcing major tax concessions for cinema halls multiplexes, the new government has decided to hold a national level film festival in Patna.

The tax relief has given a ray of hope to the owners of all such cinema halls who had to close down their shutters because of arbitrary taxation policy of the previous government. Altogether, 62 cinema halls are lying closed in the state today. The government's decision to give a five-year tax holiday for multiplex cinema halls has attracted the attention of some major players in that field.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi said that CMD of Adlabs, Manmohan Shetty, and owner of Hyderabad based Prasadlabs, P Ramesh, have shown keen interest in opening multiplexes in Patna.  The government would extend all facilities to them, Modi added.

Till date, there is not a single multiplex in Bihar. The decision to hold a national-level film festival in the state capital has given a further boost to the expectations of those having business interest in the entertainment sector. The event which was postponed at least six times during the previous regime on extraneous considerations will finally be held in Patna from February 11-18. The state government has planned to hold the film festival at a time when the National Youth festival is also being held in the state capital. Arrangements have been made to make group bookings for film shows to the participants of the youth festival.

The Union ministry of information and broadcasting and the National Institute of Film's Development Corporation (NFDC) are in constant touch with the state government to make this event a success. Special Secretary of Bihar government's information and Public Relations department Vivek Singh, who is the nodal officer for this event, said that altogether 25 award winning films would be screened during the week long show.

The final list of films to be screened is yet to be sent to the state government by the NFDC. The tentative list has names of films like Dance Like A Man, Making Of The Mahatma, Mr and Mrs Iyer, Matrubhhomi, Page-3, Maqbool etc. The list of international films include Le cousin (French),  The Horse Man (Croatian), Men on the Train (French), Judge Mama (Chinese) etc. A film festival of this level is being held in Bihar after  two decades.
