While on Monday, Rs 42,000 were collected as fine, on Tuesday only Rs 7200 were collected. “People have responded positively to the initiative and have come out in its support. Our idea was never to collect money but to spread the message,” said A Khanolkar the ward officer of the area.

On the second day  of the week-long drive, 40 people were booked in Dadar, Matunga and Mahim for littering, spitting and bathing in the public spaces. In Dadar ten were fined, while in Matunga 25 were caught.

In an intensive drive on Monday, officials of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) requested people with folded hands and when the Gandhian ways did not work they made people clean up their own mess and slapping fine on 50 offenders.

At Ranade road opposite Nakshatra Mall, a 25-year-old man was made to move his car and clean up the garbage pile underneath.
