PCB committee to probe Afridi ball-chomping incident

The Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) six-member committee would also investigate the ball-tampering controversy involving flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi, besides looking for reasons behind the team's humiliating whitewash in Australia.

"The committee will start work from next week and we have also included Afridi's case in our terms of reference," The Daily Times quoted PCB's chief operating officer (COO) Wasim Bari, as saying.

Describing Afridi's shameful act of chomping the ball during the fifth and last one-day international against Australia in Perth last week as 'unacceptable', Bari said the committee would seriously look into the issue.

Bari, however, did not revealed whether the PCB would slap an additional punishment on Afridi besides the International Cricket Council's (ICC) two T20 match ban.

This is not the first time the swashbuckling Pakistani all rounder has been banned by the ICC. He has been punished on two occasions previously.

Afridi was banned for a Test and two one-day internationals for deliberately damaging the pitch during the Faisalabad Test against England in 2005. He was also banned for four one-day matches for trying to hit a spectator during Pakistan's tour of South Africa in 2007.
