The recently-instituted Ahmedabad University (AU) is all set to have its first-ever youth festival, on November 25 and 26. BK Institute of Management (BKIM) is hosting the event, which will see participation from faculty and students alike.

"Our students and faculty have been aware of and associated with the concept of the youth festival, since BK and HL colleges were earlier under the Gujarat University. AU's first youth festival is being hosted by BKIM, and the festival's coordinating committee comprises one faculty from each of the divisions," said chairperson of the committee and a professor of the BCom stream, Parag Patel.

Other professors who're doubling up as committee members include Chirag Trivedi from BBA who will handle theatre events, Mayur Shah from MBA who will handle literary events, Axita Shah from MCA who will handle fine arts events, Heena Timani from BCA who will handle musical events and Vaibhav Kadia from BCom who will handle dance events.

Chirag Trivedi explained that they haven't decided upon a common theme for the festival, to prevent the sub-events from getting monotonous. But the photography competition under the head of 'fine arts' is likely to have Ahmedabad or a part of the city as the theme, taking into consideration the fact of the city completing 600 years, and that the name of the city is included in the name of the university. "Also, with the total student strength under AU being around 2,500, we are expecting around 1,000-1,500 students at the youth festival, as participants and members of the audience," Trivedi said.

The committee explained that most of the events or competitions are likely to run parallel, and hence, very few students, if any, will be able to participate in all of them. With six faculty members on the committee, there are likely to be around 100 students as volunteers, considering 20 students from each division.

Next year onwards, AU's youth festival will have competitions divided into three categories - first, second and third year. Also, students will get opportunities to participate in national-level youth festivals.
