To avoid discrepancy and fraud while admitting students under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, a city-based school has sought a few extra documents from parents. Anand Niketan Satellite was mired intro a controversy, when the school sought the registration certificate of a vehicle to verify the income of parents wanting to admit their child. However, when they created an uproar and the National Students Union of India intervened, admission forms were handed out to the parents.

An aggrieved parent Savitaben Prajapati told DNA that she has been running from pillar to post to confirm her son's admission since May 5. "My husband sells vegetables on a cart and we have been missing work to confirm our son's admission. The school asked for the RC book of our two-wheeler. I could fill the admission form given by the school on Saturday."

Kamal Mangal, Trustee, Anand Niketan Group, said, "We had asked for a few extra documents to verify their income. However, as per the guidelines of the DEO, admissions must be completed until Monday. So, we agreed to confirm their admissions. There was the condition that if any of the documents furnished were found to be false, we will cancel the child's admission and file an FIR."

Narayan Bharwad, secretary, NSUI, said, "The list of documents given by the education department for RTE admissions doesn't mention the need to furnish a copy of the RC book. What is the relation between an RC book and RTE admissions? The parents were harassed for many days and hence, we had to intervene. After we intervened and met the school authorities, they agreed to grant admission to the students."
