Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said on Monday that there was a feeling of disappointment with the BJP in Gujarat, which will go to polls in about two months.
"Congress believes that there is a strong undercurrent of disenchantment with the BJP in different parts of the state.There is a feeling of dissatisfaction, disillusionment and disappointment among people for the BJP," Ramesh told reporters at the state Congress headquarters.
The former Union minister also said that the Congress was going to people with the message that the two decades rule of BJP in the state have not been beneficial for farmers, traders and the youth, and there was a huge difference between the BJP's claims and the reality.
Congress has been out of power in Gujarat since 1995, and sees a good chance to break the jinx in the upcoming elections. This is seen as one of the reasons why Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has been extensively touring the state ahead of the polls.
Ramesh also lashed out at the BJP-led union government saying the economy was stagnant, jobs were being destroyed and no investment was taking place. He also said that Goods and Services Tax (GST) was hurting small traders.
Earlier, the Congress leader demanded a time-bound probe by two sitting Supreme Court judges into the expose related to the increase of 16,000 times in revenue of a company owned by BJP president Amit Shah's son Jay within a year. Describing the episode as a scam, Ramesh alleged that it took place with the knowledge of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
