When they’re not busy practising the swinging ball, you might just spot them trying out the Bhangra swing. The English women’s cricket team, which is in Bangalore for limited over series against India, is keen on picking up some dance moves apart from the series trophy. “It would be awesome to dance to Bollywood numbers. If we get sometime off cricket, we’d love to check out places and learn a couple of moves before we go back home,” says 18-year-old Danielle Wyatt, who wants to ace the Bhangra.

For some in the 15-member squad, it’s the first trip to the city. “We are definitely going to go out and see what Bangalore is really like,” said Wyatt. Eating at Ebony, a night out at the Hard Rock Café, and lots of shopping is what the English women intend to do during their stay in Bangalore.

The team, led by Charlotte Edwards, arrived in Bangalore late Sunday evening, amid high security after the blast in Pune. The team, however, is not worried. “We have been in constant touch with the BCCI and the security forces here. We are not worried,” said team manager Ray Barker.

“I love Bangalore,” says Ebony Rainford-Brent who was in the city with her team last year for a 10-day camp. “The food is great. My mum is West Indian and a lot of what she cooks is similar to the Indian cuisines,” she said.

Another player Tamsin Beaumont said: “The moment my mum heard I am travelling to India, she wanted me to pick up a saree for her.” “Yeah we have a lot of shopping to do and check out all the branded stores,” said Nicola Shaw.

The tour will open with a warm-up match against Board President’s XI in Bangalore on February 17. The Chinnaswamy Stadium will also host the first two ODIs on February 19 and 21. The next two matches have been scheduled for February 24 and 26 in Visakapatnam, with Mumbai’s MIG Stadium hosting the final ODI and three Twenty20 matches.
