Captain Vikram Batra was pursuing his MA in English at Panjab University at the time. He met his love there. First, there was friendship, and then there was love. Both of them had agreed to marry and live together.

Captain Vikram Batra had told his family not to look for a girl for his wedding because he would only marry his girlfriend. The family had also received assurance from Captain Vikram Batra and his only love that they were completely devoted to each other, according to Captain Vikram Batra's father, GL Batra. Once Captain Vikram Batra returned, the family was eager to marry the two.

Fate intervened and prevented this love story from being concluded. Captain Vikram Batra, who was 25 years old at the time was martyred in the Kargil War. Parents were getting ready for their wedding. Captain Vikram Batra, on the other hand, returned in a tricolour shroud. Captain Vikram Batra's girlfriend came to Palampur after his martyrdom to bid him farewell. She stated that she would not be able to marry anybody else. It wasn't easy for a 22-year-old girl to live her entire life alone. 

Captain Vikram Batra's father, GL Batra, defines their love as "genuine love," which is rare in today's world. "That girl has not married until today". The martyr's father stated, "and they have determined that she would now spend her entire life with the support of Vikram Batra's memories”. he added.

It's not as if the family hasn't exerted some pressure. Captain Vikram Batra's parents tried hard to persuade the girl to remarry, but no recommendation, no pressure could shatter Captain Vikram Batra's unbreakable vow, which had been etched in his mind for all time. She told Captain Vikram Batra's father that she couldn't marry anybody else because her entire life was now committed to Captain Vikram Batra's memory.

The Kargil war has now completed 22 years. 22 years have also passed since the martyrdom of Captain Vikram Batra. His love story couldn't be completed, but his promise of love, dedication, and sacrifice has made their love tale complete. Captain Vikram Batra's courage in the Kargil conflict, as well as his love story of true love, will always inspire young people who have the desire to lay down their lives for their nation.
