Gadar 2 box office collection day 3: Sunny Deol film sees record-breaking Sunday, overtakes part 1's lifetime earnings

Gadar 2 has continued its record-breaking run at the box office on the third day of its release. On Sunday, the film saw a huge upswing in collections and footfalls across India, registering housefull shows across the country. The film has crossed the 100-crore mark in domestic collections and crossed the 150-crore mark with worldwide gross. With this, it is now the highest-grossing film of Sunny Deol’s career.

Gadar 2 earned Rs 52 crore net in India on Sunday, taking its total domestic collection to an impressive Rs 135 crore for the opening weekend. It is the second biggest opening weekend by a Bollywood film this year, behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. The footfall was extremely healthy with the evening shows going at an astonishing 96% occupancy across India. Overall, the film had an occupancy of 85% for all shows across the country on Sunday.

While Gadar 2’s overseas collections are marginal, the film has still crossed the 150-crore mark and as per estimates, stands somewhere around the Rs 165-170 crore mark after three days. A solid Monday hold could mean the film could easily be looking at a 300-crore plus lifetime figure. Interestingly, after just three days, Gadar 2 is already the highest-grossing film of Sunny Deol’s career, having overtaken both Yamla Pagla Deewana (Rs 88 crore) and Gadar (Rs 133 crore). That Gadar 2 has managed to overtake the first part’s lifetime haul in just three days speaks volumes of the film’s success.

After the first weekend, Gadar 2 is already the seventh-highest grossing Hindi film of the year and is poised to enter the 200-crore club soon. In all likeliness, by the end of its run, it should easily be among the top two or three highest-grossing Hindi films of the year. Pathaan’s Rs 1050 crore haul is beyond it but it should surpass numbers two and three The Kerala Story and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani easily.
