The Kapoor family is often called the first family of Bollywood. It is the most popular and illustrious film family in India, having given countless big stars for over four generations. And while the Kapoors boast of several big names, right from Prithviraj Kapoor to Ranbir Kapoor, there are many members of the family who failed to make it big. Among them was one actor who did not even taste success once at the box office. And yet, he achieved something that none of the superstars from the family could.

Kapoor family’s most unsuccessful actor

Aditya Raj Kapoor is the son of the late Shammi Kapoor and Geeta Bali. Born to the two actors in 1956, Aditya did his schooling from Lawrence School, Sanawar before dropping out in 1970. In his teens, he began assisting his uncle Raj Kapoor on films like Bobby, Dharam Karam, and Satyam Shivam Sundaram. But even as his cousins Rishi, Randhir, and Rajiv ventured into acting Aditya stayed away for the longest time. He turned producer with the 1989 film Gawaahi, which was a box office failure. After a hiatus from films, he returned in 2004 and directed two films before finally making his acting debut with Chase in 2010. He worked in over half a dozen other films over the next five years but never did any meaty parts. In 2014, he made his TV debut with a supporting role in Everest.

Aditya Raj Kapoor’s unique feat

The Kapoor family is successful in films but not academically. Rishi Kapoor had once revealed that no male member of the family has ever graduated college. Most either dropped out in school or (as in Ranbir Kapoor’s case) college. But none completed their graduation. That was until 2023. Aditya Raj Kapoor revisited his studies in the pandemic and did a course in Philosophy from the Indira Gandhi National Open University in Philosophy via correspondence. In 2023, he earned his Bachelor of Arts, becoming the first male graduate from the Kapoor family, a feat even the likes of Raj Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, or Ranbir Kapoor managed.
