A lot of celebrities, including theatre artists and writers-directors etc have been pleading to not vote for the current ruling government, however actor Ranvir Shorey had his own viewpoint to share
Every person in India is talking about the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and rightly so. It is definitely a positive sign when people show interest in their country and the country's politics. However there are influencers for this public. Various artists (from theatre, literature, music, writers etc) have come forward in huge numbers and appealed to vote against the current government.
However actor Ranvir Shorey had his own viewpoint to share. The actor did not completely oppose his fellow artists but did not agree with them completely either. In fact, Shorey went on to make a 90-second video and post it on Twitter, thus also sharing his views about the ongoing situation.
In the video, Ranvir goes on to say, "Elections are closer and I have been reading about artists who are pleading to people to vote consciously. However they are also feeding the public what they should be thinking. I am completely in tune with their intentions. Their thoughts reflect on them, just like my vote is my own."
He adds, "I believe (ask), have the problems we are facing today, come into existence recently? Was our country on the right path five years back? Were there no riots then? Weren't the poor killed in the name of caste and religion? Wasn't there hunger and poverty?"
Shorey went on to mention, "It is unfair to blame a government which came into ruling only five years back for all these problems. One cannot solve such huge problems of a densely populated country in a span of five years." He also clearly spoke, "Those who could not improve the condition over 60 years, talk about justice right now. Is it fair that a family would rule a country over generations? These people, living in palaces, who have ruled our country over four generations, now talk about hatred. How would they know about the rage that comes after being treated with injustice and poverty?"
"It is often said that people tend to forget things easily. I just want to remind you people to vote for sure. In fact, think clearly before voting. If you are voting, then vote according your thoughts and beliefs, not getting affected by other people's thoughts. Aapka vote, aapki soch. (your vote, your thoughts). Jai Hind," concluded the actor.
