From Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur-starrer Jersey to Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi-starrer Selfiee, there have been multiple Hindi movies recently that have been remade from south Indian hits and have failed at the box office. Another addition to this list is Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon-starrer action comedy Shehzada.

Shehzada is the official Hindi remake of the 2020 Telugu blockbuster hit Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo headlined by Allu Arjun. As per the entertainment tracking portal Sacnilk, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo was made in Rs 120 crore and grossed Rs 270 crore at the box office. It also featured Pooja Hegde, Tabu, Jayaram, Sushanth, Murali Sharma, Sachin Khedekar, and Sunil. Allu Arjun's father Allu Aravind produced the Telugu film and its Hindi remake as well.

Since Shehzada faced some financial crisis, Kartik Aaryan decided to forego his acting fees and thus, he was credited as co-producer. Talking about the same, the actor told ETimes, "For this one. Initially, I was not onboard as a producer for Shehzada. At first, I had taken my fees and remuneration. And then there was a crisis. The film was going through a crisis and they needed somebody to step up. So I asked my producer and then I gave up my money. That is how this whole thing, production and me becoming a co-producer came (into being)."

The film was directed by David Dhawan's son and Varun Dhawan's brother Rohit Dhawan. Shehzada failed to recreate the magic of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo as it was completely rejected by the audiences. The film even failed to recover its reported budget of Rs 50 crore and only earned Rs 32 crore in India and grossed Rs 48 crore worldwide, as per Sacnilk.
