For the first time ever, Reliance Jio announces open sale for its flagship phone, JioPhone 2 on Jio.com. The sale will start today from 12PM and will be continued till November 12. Prior to this, JioPhone 2 has been available via flash sales only.
The JioPhone 2 costs Rs 2,999 and, but if you are buying the same under open sale offer, then you need to shell out extra Rs 99 for delivery, bringing the total cost of the phone to Rs 3,098.
However, customers paying through their Paytm wallets will receive a cashback of Rs 200.
In terms of specifications, the JioPhone 2 comes with a 2.40-inch display with a 240 X 320 pixels resolution and 512MB of RAM. The phone packs 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card.
As far as the cameras are concerned, the Jio Phone 2 packs a 2-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 0.3-megapixel front shooter for selfies. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Global Positioning System (GPS), Bluetooth, Near-field communication (NFC) and frequency modulation (FM). The Jio Phone 2 runs KAI OS and is powered by a 2000mAh battery. The device supports popular apps such as YouTube and Facebook.
WhatsApp is now available for JioPhone across India as well. The company has specifically built a new version of its private messaging app for JioPhone, running the Jio-KaiOS.
Meanwhile, the swift uptake of 4G mobile services in India might push 2G mobile handsets out of business in the next two to three years.
Out of a total of over 1 billion users, only 400 million own smartphones, i.e. hooked onto high-speed internet. The number of internet users has been growing at a fast pace, as access to data services and 4G enabled handsets became affordable with the entry of new player Reliance Jio.
The remaining 800 million users are still on 2G feature phones, which offer only basic voice and SMS facilities.
During January-August period, the 4G-enabled feature phones captured 39% of the overall feature phone market, registering a whopping growth of 5,959% (owing to a low base in the previous year) compared to the same period in previous year, according to data from Counterpoint Research.
