One of the most inspiring success stories in the startup ecosystem is that of Ruchi Kalra, a self-made entrepreneur who has achieved extraordinary success despite numerous challenges.

Ruchi Kalra is an IIT Delhi graduate where she pursued her B-Tech and later earned her MBA from the Indian School of Business. Before venturing into entrepreneurship, Kalra worked as a partner at McKinsey for over eight years.

In an interview, Kalra shared that in 2016, 73 investors rejected their idea. However, they only needed one to believe in them, and the rest is history.

She then founded two unicorn companies alongside her husband and they are estimated to be worth Rs 52,000 crore. In 2022, her net worth was reportedly around Rs 2600 crore.

In 2015, she and her husband Ashish Mohapatra founded OfBusiness, a B2B platform that sells raw materials and industrial supplies. The company has a valuation of Rs 44,000 crore. She also serves as the CEO of Oxyzo Financial Services, the lending arm of OfBusiness, which raised $200 million at a valuation of $1 billion (Rs 8200 crore). This achievement made them the first couple in India to build two unicorns.

In 2017, Kalra founded Oxyzo to provide financing for buyers on their platform, extending loans to small and medium businesses. Her business strategy is straightforward: extract profit from every transaction.

In the financial year 2021, Oxyzo's revenue was Rs 197.53 crore, which surged to Rs 312.97 crore the following year. Their profit increased from Rs 39.94 crore to Rs 60.34 crore in 2021-2022. OfBusiness's revenue for FY-22 was around Rs 7269 crore, with a profit after tax of Rs 125.63 crore.
