Mayank Agarwal has finally made it to the Indian playing 11. Agarwal made his Test debut at the MCG in the Boxing Day Test match on Wednesday. Mayank Agarwal became the 295th man from India to play test cricket.

Agarwal was knocking on the doors for a long time. When the Karnataka batsman was selected for the Test squad for the two matches against the West Indies, he did not get a chance to play for India. However, the dismal performance of KL Rahul and M Vijay and an unfortunate injury to Prthvi Shaw meant that Agarwal got the chance this time. 

Agarwal was knocking on the doors for a long time. Many have been calling for his inclusion in the senior side for a long time. While Agarwal waiting in the wings, he kept scoring in the domestic circuit and almost made it impossible for the selectors to ignore him.

Mayank Agarwal became the 295th player to represent India in Tests. He is the 26th player from Karnataka to play Test cricket. Interestingly, Agarwal replaced his Karnataka teammate KL Rahul in the 11. The only other time an Indian opener made his Test debut in Australia, before Mayank Agarwal - was Amir Elahi in the 2nd innings at Sydney in December 1947.

The 27-year-old Mayank Agarwal has an exceptional first-class record. Agarwal made his first-class debut against Jharkhand in 2013. Since then, he has played 46 first-class and 75 List A matches for Karnataka, averaging close to 50 in both. In November 2017, he scored his maiden triple century in first-class cricket, when he made 304 not out batting for Karnataka against Maharashtra in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy.

Mayank Agarwal amassed 723 runs in 8 matches at a staggering average of 90.37 in the 2017-18 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy - becoming the highest run-getter in one season of the tournament. The record for the most runs in a List-A tournament was previously held by Sachin Tendulkar who scored 673 runs in the 2003 ICC World Cup.

Mayank Agarwal scored the most runs in an Indian domestic season across all formats. He scored 2,141 runs across all formats in 2017-18. He ended up as the leading run-scorer in Ranji Trophy 2017-18 with 1160 runs in 8 matches. In June 2018, he was awarded with the Madhavrao Scindia Award For The Highest Run-Scorer In Ranji Trophy by the BCCI.
