Sachin Tendulkar, Saina Nehwal, Hima Das urge people to light diyas and salute 'sanitation warriors'

Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday urged people to follow the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to light diyas and candles tonight at 9 pm for nine minutes to 'salute the commitment of lakhs of sanitation warriors'.

Tendulkar took to Twitter to write: "4 hours to go for #9pm9minute. I'm lighting a Diya to salute the commitment of lakhs of #SanitationWarriors. They continue to keep our surroundings clean, putting their lives at risk to keep us safe. India, choose your reason tonight but let`s unite. @narendramodi @PMOIndia."

Indian sprinter Hima Das urged the people to follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s appeal to light diya and candle tonight.

Hima Das took to Twitter to write: "Let`s stand together in the fight against Coronavirus and express our solidarity by lighting lamps, candles, torches and mobile flashes in our balconies or doorsteps today at 9 pm for 9 minutes. @narendramodi @KirenRijiju."

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu on Sunday urged people to follow the Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s appeal to light diyas and candles tonight at 9 pm for nine minutes to fight the darkness spread by the coronavirus crisis.

Chanu took to Twitter and posted a video in which she said: "Our Prime Minister has appealed to us for lighting candle, diya or mobile`s flashlight tonight at 9 pm for nine minutes. Following his appeal, we all will turn off the lights of our home and will light candles and diyas and will fight coronavirus.

"The athlete captioned the video as: "I am ready to light candles and diyas for 9 minutes at 9 pm today. I request everyone to join this movement for our nation. Indian women cricket team's Sushma Verma wants people to follow Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal. Verma took to Twitter and posted a video.

In the video she said: "Hello everyone! I hope you all are safe at your home with your loved ones. It is a reminder of about tonight, what we have to do is turn off the lights of your home at 9 pm and light candles, diyas or mobile flashlights for nine minutes. Let's not cross the line of social distancing. It is just to challenge the darkness which is spread by coronavirus crisis."
