CRICKET
Kuldeep Yadav was left out of the Indian cricket team for final Test against Australia, meaning that the chinaman bowler has played just one match.
In February 2019, India cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri had said that Kuldeep Yadav was the number one spinner in overseas Tests following India's historic 2-1 series win in Australia. The statistics were already backing Kuldeep Yadav. He was the only Indian bowler who had taken a five-wicket haul in all formats and he had already taken a five-wicket haul in Sydney against Australia. Kuldeep Yadav is also the only Indian bowler to take two hat-tricks in ODIs, with one coming against Australia and one against the West Indies. However, in 2020/21, Kuldeep Yadav has been so out of favor with the Indian cricket team that the once 'No.1 overseas bowler' was not picked for the final Test in Brisbane.
The number of injuries in the Indian cricket team forced the management to dig deep into their resources. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were both injured in the Sydney Test and it was confirmed that Ashwin would not play the Gabba Test when he T Natarajan and Washington Sundar made their debuts. The fact that Washington Sundar, who was a net bowler on the entire tour and was fast-drafted in the Indian cricket Test team, showed that the management had no faith in Kuldeep Yadav. With the Brisbane pitch meriting four fast bowlers and a spinner, the Indian cricket team chose to pick Navdeep Saini, Shardul Thakur, T Natarajan, Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar as their bowlers, meaning Kuldeep Yadav ended the Australia tour with just one ODI and one practice game in Sydney.
Kuldeep Yadav has been plagued with some confidence issues ever since the 2019 World Cup. His performances prior to the tournament in IPL 2019 was not up to the mark for Kolkata Knight Riders. Kuldeep Yadav's confidence dipped to such an extent that in IPL 2020 for Kolkata Knight Riders, he did not play more than three games. From being the No.1 spinner for India in limited-overs cricket and Tests a few years ago, this current situation is a sad state of affairs for Kuldeep Yadav. Many Indian cricket fans did not take to Kuldeep Yadav not being picked for the Brisbane Test.
Just wonder if India could have played Kuldeep Yadav for one of the quicks.....
