After Pakistan's disappointing exit from the T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board took decisive action by removing chief selector Wahab Riaz and selection committee member Abdul Razzaq from their positions on Wednesday, July 10.

Following Pakistan's early departure from the tournament, Wahab Riaz's role as chief selector came under scrutiny, with former cricketers criticizing his selection decisions and alleging favoritism. These criticisms were believed to have contributed to the team's lackluster performance in the T20 World Cup.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Wahab Riaz was initially relieved of his duties as chief selector and placed on a seven-member selection committee without a designated leader. However, due to his experience and seniority within the group, Riaz effectively assumed the role of head of the selection committee shortly before the T20 World Cup.

Abdul Razzaq was appointed as a member of the selection committee for both the men's and women's teams. The former Pakistan all-rounder will now not serve as a key member of the selectors for both teams.

Prior to his role as PCB chief selector, Wahab Riaz served as a caretaker sports minister. He was known to be a close associate of PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who was also a caretaker minister in Punjab at the time. Riaz accompanied Pakistan's 15-member squad to the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA as a senior team manager, providing valuable guidance and support to the team throughout the tournament.

With the removal of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the selection committee, only three members - Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, and Bilal Afzal - remain.
