U19 World Cup final: ICC to investigate India vs Bangladesh post-match on-field clash between players

The 2020 U19 World Cup final witnessed an ugly ending when Bangladeshi players got involved in a physical on-field spat with the Indian players on Sunday (February 9) at the Senwes Park.

The Bengal cubs defeated India by three wickets (DLS method) to lift their maiden ICC title.

Speaking about the post-match fiasco, Team India's U19 manager Anil Patel claimed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) will watch the video footage and decide accordingly.

However, what initiated the scene and what was said is not yet know. The cameras too did not focus much on the fight and turned to the celebratory scenes.

"After the match, I spoke to officials and match referee regarding the incident which took place (behavior of Bangladeshi players)."

"Now ICC will watch the video and accordingly they will decide what to do," Patel was quoted as saying by ANI.

Both skippers also expressed their thoughts about the incident during the post-match interview and gave their take on it.

“Some of our bowlers were emotional and were pumped up. What happened after the game was unfortunate. I would like to congratulate India,” Bangladesh U19 skipper Akbar Ali said.

However, India U19 captain Priyam Garg said: "We were easy. We think it's part and parcel of the game - you win some and you lose some. But their reaction was dirty. I think it shouldn't have happened. But it's okay."

In chase of a modest total of 178 runs, Bangladeshi openers Parvez Hossain Emon and Tanzid Hasan provided the side with a solid start.

The duo managed to knit together a 50-run stand for the first wicket before leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi drew the first blood for India by dismissing Tanzid for 17 runs.

Skipper Akbar Ali afterward came in to steady the ship for Banglangladesh and managed to formed brief partnerships with Shamim Hossain (7) and Avishek Das (5) who were dismissed by Indian pacer Sushant Mishra.

Ali (43) and Hasan (5) remained unbeaten in the end and guided Bangladesh to their very first ICC trophy.

For India, Bishnoi ended the day with the impressive numbers of 10-3-30-4. He also became the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 17 dismissals under his belt.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the only stand out performer with the bat on the day for India as he smashed 88 runs off 121 balls and finished the tournament as the leading run-scorer.
