'Would've been happier if': Yashasvi Jaiswal's father has only one regret, despite son's U19 World Cup achievements

Young cricketer Yashasvi Jaiswal's surging innings was not enough in the end as India lost to Bangladesh by three wickets (DLS method) in the final of the U19 World Cup on Sunday (February 9).

Batting first, Yashasvi became his nation's only beacon of hope as India got off to a terrible start at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

The young Bangladeshi bowlers were in top form on the day as their aggressive bowling attack restricted India on 177/10 in 47.2 overs.

Jaiswal was the only stand out performer with the bat for India as he smashed 88 runs off 121 balls as the Boys in Blue kept losing wickets at key intervals.

Reacting to his son winning the Player of the Tournament award at the World Cup, father Bhupendra expressed his delight but claimed he would have been on cloud nine if only India managed to win the title.

"Yashasvi played well but I would have been happier if India had won the U19 World Cup," senior Jaiswal told ANI.

"It was an experience, I want him to play better in the future and make the country proud," he added.

Yashasvi was in blistering form throughout the tournament for India.

The 18-year-old smashed 400 runs in six matches (which included four fifties and one century) and managed to finish as the top-run getter at the trophy tournament.

As part-time leg-spinner, Yashasvi also contributed with the ball and picked up three wickets including one in the final.
