Ben Stokes led England to a commanding victory over West Indies in the first Test at Lords, triumphing by an innings and 114 runs. The match concluded on Day 3 with West Indies' second innings being dismissed for 136. This decisive win marked the end of the illustrious Test career of legendary fast bowler James Anderson.

England set the stage for their victory with a stellar performance in the first innings. Debutant Gus Atkinson shone with a seven-wicket haul, restricting West Indies to a mere 121 runs. In response, England built a substantial lead of 250 runs, courtesy of half-centuries from Joe Root and Jamie Smith.

West Indies' batting struggles persisted in their second innings, losing six wickets on Day 2 for just 79 runs. They could only add 57 runs on Day 3 before being bowled out. Atkinson continued his exceptional display, claiming five wickets in the match, while Anderson added three to his career tally of 704. Atkinson's remarkable debut, with 12 wickets in the match, was the standout performance of the game. Anderson's final Test match saw him finish as the leading wicket-taker among fast bowlers in Test cricket history.
