Two students of class VI in a government primary school in the Sahibabad area here suffered grievous injuries after a portion of the ceiling of their classroom collapsed on Thursday morning. The police said that they have not received an official complaint, but the Basic Shiksha officer and the district administration are looking into the matter.

According to the police, the incident took place at the Junior High School in Pasonda. The plaster of the ceiling of a classroom came off and collapsed on the students while the class was in progress. The two students identified as Insad (13) and Rehan (14) were injured.

"The teachers rushed the two to a nearby hospital. One of them has fractured his foot, while the other student suffered a back injury, however, both of them were discharged later," said a senior police officer.

After the incident, several parents staged a protest outside the school and demanded officials to take strict action against the administration.

"The government school is in a mess. The infrastructure is in a bad shape. The government should own their mistake and work for towards improving the condition of the school. We have made repeated complaints. In spite of this, the administration did not take action and today this mishap has taken place. The walls of the school have not been repaired since 2004," a parent said.

The district Basic Shiksha officer said that they are looking into the matter and strict action will be taken against the person found at fault.

"The safety of children is the utmost priority of the school. We have made a complaint to the police and the administration has assured us strict action," said Vinay, Basic Shiksha Adhikari, Ghaziabad.
