Demands action against Rohingyas and Bangladeshis living illegally in Capital, depriving 'poor Indians' of their rights
Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Manoj Tiwari demanded that the Arvind Kejriwal government should conduct a survey akin to the National Register of Citizens to identify and evict Rohingyas and Bangladeshis living illegally in the national Capital, on Monday. He claimed that these people were depriving poor in India of their rights.
Speaking to media persons, the BJP leader said that they are in the process of compiling data of Rohingyas, Bangladeshis and "other" migrants to identify the exact number. "We will soon complete the activity and hand over the report to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP also urges the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to conduct a similar survey to find out how many illegal migrants are living in Delhi," he said. The Delhi BJP has written a letter to the CM on the issue, he told reporters here. "We have also apprised the Home Ministry of the matter. The Delhi government must now act to ensure eviction of illegal migrants."
"In the Centre's data, this number is pegged at 40 lakh. It is a hotly debated topic in the national Capital, too. The Delhi government should identify and ensure action against Rohingyas and Bangladeshis living illegally in different parts of Delhi," he further said. Anticipating cooperation from Delhi government officials, Tiwari also said that district magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates among others are aware where migrants are living currently, including Ridge area. he also said that by demanding action against them, the party did not mean to throw them in jail. "They should be sent back to their respective nations," he clarified, adding that illegal migrants were also found to be involved in criminal activities sometimes.
Lashing out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her remarks against the Centre, he said it was "shocking" to see her favouring illegal occupants of the country. "These people are eating away into the resources of our countrymen who are poor and deprived. We welcome everyone here but those who are enjoying staying in Indian land, must also work instead of being freeloaders of government resources," the BJP MP from North East Delhi said.
