Oppn party told Election Commission, AAP is maligning their party’s image
The Delhi BJP on Monday demanded de-recognisation of AAP's registration as a party from the Election Commission, as the row over deleting names from electoral roles intensified. A delegation of senior leaders led by Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta met the Chief Election Commissioner and submitted a complaint against the Aam Aadmi Party for false propaganda about deleting names from the voters' list
"We have submitted a complaint against the AAP to the EC for dividing people of Delhi on caste lines, misinforming the voters about deletion of names. We have also complained against the AAP claims that the BJP has deleted votes while the Delhi Chief Minister has added votes to the list and the objectionable comments made by Arvind Kejriwal and his party leaders against the EC," Tiwari said. He also referred to the various statements issued through the official twitter handle of the chief minister through which similar communication was allegedly done.
"We have demanded that the EC takes stern action against the conveners, leaders and office bearers of the AAP and the party should be de-recognised, their election symbol seized," he further said.
Tiwari alleged that at the instance of Kejriwal, "false" telephone calls are being made to the voters through social media and people of Delhi are being misled about deletion of votes. He added that they will move the court against AAP in the case.
Leader of Opposition Gupta, meanwhile, said, "Making objectionable comments against the EC and attempt to divide people on caste lines is sedition. The people of Delhi will certainly give a fitting reply to the AAP. The AAP leaders are so much apprehensive of their defeat in Delhi that they are trying to defame the BJP with the help of false propaganda." "Deletion and addition of votes is made under a legal process by the EC but Kejriwal thinks himself to be the authority," gupta hit out at the AAP chieftain.
AAP leaders, including party head and chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, have alleged the names of about 30 lakh voters, especially Purvanchali, Muslim and Bania community members, were deleted from the electoral roll by the EC, at the behest of the BJP, since the 2015 Assembly election in Delhi. The final electoral roll was published last week.
Last week, AAP leader Raghav Chadha claimed that party’s stand was vindicated as the latest electoral rolls showed a drop of 1.2 lakh votes in Delhi in one year
BJP’s Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said that making “objectionable comments” against the EC for several months and attempting to divide the people on caste lines tantamount to “sedition”.
