Include marks from Classes 9th, 10th, 11th in Class 12th finals, suggests NCERT's PARAKH

A unit set up in NCERT has submitted a report to the Union Education Ministry suggesting that a student's marks in classes 9, 10, 11th should be included when awarding final marks in Class 12th. 

After conducting a survey with 32 schools, PARAKH suggested that weights of 15% for class 9, 20% for class 10, and 25% for class 11 be taken into account in the final report of class 12.

The report will be shared with the schools so they can review it and offer comments. School administrators have discussed it thus far in the states of Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

The research recommends that in addition to summative assessments, or term-end tests, the final evaluation should include group evaluations, assignments, and class discussions. The final report weighting for class 12 will be 30% for formative assessments and 70% for summative assessments.

They insisted that the final class 10 report should take into account 40% of the class 9 score and 60% of the class 10 score; similarly, for class 12, the final class 12 report should take into account 40% of the class 11 score and 60% of the class 12 score. In August, PARAKH plans to talk about the new study with other schools.
